Property Description

Come visit us at our home by the river.

The River House Bed and Breakfast is a quaint cottage style home. The 1st guest room (the loft) is very spacious and comfortable with a king size bed and a single, also 3pce ensuite. There is a small efficiency kitchen area, which consists of a counter top fridge, microwave, toaster, tea kettle, and coffee pot. The second room is on the main floor and has 4pce ensuite plus a sitting room with a single pullout couch. The bed is queen and it also has satellite TV.

Breakfast is served in the dining room or in the side garden. Our objective is to create "a home away from home" for our guests so it is a very casual atmosphere. It is country living at its best and only minutes to the village of Lakefield, or to the city of Peterborough.

The Otonabee River is noted for its fishing for Carp, Bass, Pickerel and Muskie, and although we do not fish, we enjoy watching others enjoying the sport. We also have bikes available for you to take advantage of the bike/walking path behind the house. Lakefield is about a 20 min. ride.

Launch your boat in one of our 250 lakes and waterways linked by the scenic Trent-Severn Waterway or try paddling your way through one of our extensive canoe and kayak routes. Grab your tackle and cast your line, whether it is trolling rock outcrops or casting from the dock, Kawartha Lakes are well-known for world class fishing, whether it is walleye, trout, bass, panfish of one of the many other species.

Experience the thrill of snowmobiling on 166km of groomed routes with breathtaking stands of snow-laden pines and maples. Kawartha Lakes offers picturesque and exciting ATV trail riding. Whether you are looking for a leisurely ride or a more challenging adventure, Kawartha Lakes has it all.

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

The waterfront is rocky but is good swimming and fishing. It is very relaxing to just sit on the verandah and enjoy the boats on the river or to watch the sun set over the water. You can walk over to the locks and watch them put the boats through. It is all very relaxing and peaceful.

Enjoy the view of the river from your room or take a coffee or a glass of wine to the verandah.

So whether you are walking on the Rotary Greenway Trail, located on the old railway bed behind the house or along the river, there is lots to see - all kinds of wild flowers and birds, ducks, turtles, and if you are lucky you may even see the beaver swimming around. We can provide you with bicycles if you would rather go for a bike ride. In winter, the Rotary Greenway Trail is kept groomed and is a great place to cross country ski.

We have lived here for 38 years and have never ceased to appreciate the beauty around us.

Our River House B&B will suit all your needs for a short stay or an extended stay. Please join us on your travels through the Kawarthas.

We are conveniently located 15 minutes north of Peterborough and 5 minutes south of Lakefield.
